Opioid related hospital admissions in England increased by nearly 50% in 10 years

Opioid related hospital admissions in England increased by 48.9%, from 10 805 admissions in 2008 to 16 091 in 2018, research has shown.1

The study, led by researchers at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and the University of Barcelona, looked at hospital admissions from the use of opioids including prescription drugs such as tramadol and fentanyl, and illegal drugs such as heroin.
