New guidance is to be given to judges on their hospital visits to patients in cases where NHS trusts seek to withdraw treatment, after the Court of Appeal overturned a High Court judge’s decision that a 56 year old woman severely affected by covid-19 should come off ventilation and be allowed to die.1

Mr Justice Hayden, vice president of the Court of Protection, decided in September that AH, described by doctors as “the most complex covid patient in the world,” should have ventilation withdrawn by the end of October.2
