Re: GPs move towards industrial action after rejecting “rescue plan” for general practice

Dear Editor: Whether or not the 'rescue plan' works, it ignores the issue of the inequitable distribution of GPs in England. The creation of OFEDGE - Office For the Equitable Distribution of GPs in England - has not yet found favour with DHSC or the BMA's GPC, though both have seen the proposal. A single clause amendment to the Health & Care Bill is suggested, as follows: "The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care shall require an executive non-departmental body to ensure that there is an equitable distribution of the full time equivalent number of general practitioners throughout England, and that all areas of England are served by an adequate FTE number of GPs."
