Involuntary weight loss

In a retrospective analysis of 800 patients who presented to a clinic in northern Spain with involuntary weight loss, malignant disease was responsible for around 25% of cases. Non-malignant organic disease accounted for 45%, psychiatric disorder for 30%, and the cause was never identified in 3%. Overall, mortality at 12 months was 20%, although in the group with malignancy it was much higher at over 60% (PLoS One doi:10.1371/journal.pone.0257752).
