Corneal arcus associations . . . and other stories

A cross sectional study of 10 000 people in Germany (mean age 60, range 40 to 80) estimates the prevalence of a corneal arcus in one or both eyes at 21% in men and 17% in women. Apart from being male, the strongest associations were with age and lipid levels. In contrast, the presence of an arcus was not related to socioeconomic status, body mass index, arterial blood pressure, or HbA1c levels (PLoS One doi:10.1371/journal.pone.0255893).
