Moin Subhani always claimed that there were four important events in 1963: the assassination of President Kennedy, the Great Train Robbery, the Profumo Affair, and his own arrival in the UK. He was born in Hyderabad, India, and as a child witnessed the turmoil and tragedy of partition. His elder brother (a Muslim) was married to one of Nehru’s cousins who was, of course, a Hindu so their situation was extremely dangerous, and he and the rest of his family fled to Karachi as soon as possible, leaving most of their possessions behind.
