My mother, Luna Vishwanath, was born and brought up in Dhaka, Bangladesh, surviving the Bangladesh liberation war in 1971.

Luna discovered her passion for surgery in the anatomy dissection room as a medical student. She graduated from Dhaka Medical School in 1983. As a junior doctor, the observation of teamwork and camaraderie in the theatre atmosphere clinched her decision to become a surgeon.
