More data on drug related deaths—a clear warning sign that all is not well in the UK

The Scottish government is set to override UK opposition and set up safe consumption rooms where illicit drugs can be used under supervision.
It is part of Scotland’s response to rising numbers of drug related deaths that have left it with the highest death rate in the whole of Europe. Some 1339 people died from drug overdoses in 2020—up 5% on 2019 and more than three times the rate in England and Wales.1
