New mental health waiting time targets to be introduced in England

The NHS has announced plans to introduce five new waiting time targets for mental health services in England in a bid to improve access to care.

The proposed new standards,1 which are subject to a consultation,2 would guarantee that patients across all age groups requiring urgent care will be seen by community mental health crisis teams within 24 hours of referral, with the most urgent patients receiving help within four hours.
