Exercise in people with atrial fibrillation

Physical exercise helps most things, but a retrospective study of 70 000 people living in Korea reports that the benefits in atrial fibrillation are small. People who initiated or continued regular exercise after a diagnosis of atrial fibrillation had a slightly lower risk of heart failure over three years of follow-up compared with those who took no exercise. However, exercise brought no statistically significant reduction in risk of ischaemic stroke (PLoS Med doi:10.1371/journal.pmed.1003659).
