A hospital trust that admitted failing to provide safe care and treatment for a newborn baby and his mother has been ordered to pay a fine of £733 000.
East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust pleaded guilty last April to providing unsafe care resulting in avoidable harm to Harry Richford and his mother, Sarah, in the first such criminal prosecution of an acute care NHS trust.1 At a sentencing hearing on 18 June at Folkestone magistrates court the trust was fined £733 000 and ordered to pay a £170 victim surcharge and prosecution costs of £28 000. …
