Re: Covid-19: Outcomes worsened in second wave for Pakistanis and Bangladeshis in England
Dear Editor
UK research has shown that the highest incidence of Covid-19 infection per capita in the UK is amongst ultra-orthodox Jews. The second highest is amongst orthodox Muslims.
Why the shyness about pointing out the commonality of C19 risk in both groups?
1. Like most immigrants, they tend to settle where family or friends have already settled[1]; hence, informal ghettoes;
2. Both groups favour communal prayer. All Muslim men are required to attend Friday services, Synagogue services require ten men. Is it any wonder that C19 has spread in these communities?.
By contrast, many, if not most, churches were closed.
