Ronald West Strachan (“Ronnie”) was born in Aberdeen, attended Aberdeen Grammar School, and in 1947 started studying medicine at Aberdeen University. He spent two years of national service in the Royal Air Force and then married his childhood sweetheart, Helen, in 1959.
