Two doctors are restored to the medical register, matching total for 2019

Two doctors who were struck off the UK medical register years ago have been restored in successive days, matching the total for all of 2019. The pace of restorations has accelerated during the covid-19 pandemic.

Last year two applications were granted and 11 refused. So far in 2020 the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service has heard 17 applications for restoration, of which seven were granted.

Mostafa Karam Sorour Mahmoud won restoration in a hearing that was held in private, a common practice when questions of medical confidentiality are involved. Mahmoud worked for St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and was struck off in 2013 for unknown disciplinary reasons. Details of the case will be …
