David Eamonn Laws (“Dave”) was born in London and brought up in Kent. He was the first of his family to go to university. His medical career began in Cardiff but took him to Nottingham, Birmingham, Liverpool, and Brisbane (Australia), before he was appointed the first dedicated paediatric consultant ophthalmologist in Swansea in 1995. Exceptionally hardworking, in large part through his love of medicine in general and ophthalmology in particular, Dave worked full time until very recently. He was well known as being a very fit individual, kayaking around the island of Mull, cycling the length of Vietnam, and most recently beating his daughter’s partner …
