Colette Taylor was born and educated in Liverpool, a city that remained dear to her heart throughout her life. She sat her school certificate exams a year early and finished school at the age of 17. She went to work in a veterinary pathology laboratory to gain some relevant experience before applying to study to be a vet. But her career aspirations changed when she was told that being a vet was no life for a woman. Instead, she decided that she would like to be a doctor and in 1954, she began her degree at Liverpool, becoming the first person in her family to go to university. She was studious but also valued the fun and camaraderie in her year group. …
