Alan John McLintic was the kind of man who never wanted for social or professional invitations. Drily witty, as at ease talking about medicine, philosophy, literature, ethics, music, rugby, sport, wine, or politics, he was a bon viveur who never took himself too seriously, despite his win in the genetic lottery for talent and charm.
