Green tea and coffee

Japanese people with diabetes who drank green tea or coffee lived longer than those who didn’t. Four cups of green tea and two cups of coffee daily were associated with a reduction in all-cause mortality of around 60% (BMJ Open Diabetes Res Care doi:10.1136/bmjdrc-2020-001252). The investigators think that the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds present in these beverages might be responsible. However, the data didn’t allow adjustment for other potentially influential factors, such as household income and educational attainment.
