Refraction data, collected from 1.5 million men in Austria at the time they were conscripted into military service at the age of 17, shows that the prevalence of myopia has risen from 14% to 24% over the last 35 years. Myopia was less common among those with low educational attainment than in those with higher educational attainment, but the time trends were steeper (Br J Ophthalmol doi:10.1136/bjophthalmol-2019-315024).
