Birnie Winchester Duthie was born in Rosehearty on 12 August 1928 and died from Parkinson’s disease and heart disease on 8 February 2020. He lived at Angusfield House Care Home, Aberdeen, for the last four years of his life along with his wife, Ella, who lived there in the dementia unit for seven years. Ella died from Alzheimer’s disease on 29 May 2020.
Birnie attended Fraserburgh Academy, and war was declared two or three weeks after he started there in the summer of 1939. He started his medical degree at Aberdeen University in 1944. As well as studying …
