Hugh James Hoyland

Hugh James Hoyland (“Jim”) was a general practitioner of the old school. He started in rural Painswick in the Cotswolds in 1959, initially helping Dr Tinker, for whom four years as a Japanese prisoner of war had taken its toll. He eventually retired from the practice, which now bears his name, 35 years later in 1994. He was on call for much of those 35 years. His was an era in which general practitioners did most things.
