Former Manchester City doctor can return to work after suspension for ordering drugs under patient’s name

A former doctor for Manchester City Football Club has been allowed back on the UK medical register, after a six month suspension for ordering antidepressants and anti-anxiolytics for himself in a patient’s name and for urging his estranged partner not to cooperate in a General Medical Council (GMC) investigation into the self-prescribing.

Matthew Brown told the medical practitioners tribunal that reviewed his case and allowed him to return to work that he felt ashamed because his suspension had left him unable to assist his medical colleagues during the pandemic.
