Police have opened a criminal investigation into maternity services at the scandal hit Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Hospital Trust after an independent review found serious concerns over avoidable deaths of babies and mothers.
The interim report of a government commissioned review of 250 cases concluded that at least 42 babies and three mothers might have died avoidably and more than 50 newborns might have sustained avoidable brain damage at the trust from 1979 to 2018.
