Re: How can I make the most of my time shielding?

Dear Editor

Title : Shielding fatigue in NHS worker

Shielding guidelines have been relaxed from 6th July and will be paused soon on 1st August. The feeling of a prisoner in our own home will soon be over.
As a shielding NHS worker, the feeling of guilt was overwhelming in the early days. Working from home, each morning was a new experience as shielding continued. Everything was close enough, so things were still familiar, but far enough to feel different.
However, being optimistic, it was an opportunity to enhance the adjustment skills, become flexible, resilient, and forward thinking. I am surprised at my steep learning curve about the use of technology which governed our daily lives. The feeling of shame and despair has now been dominated by the fact that I have persistently continued to support my colleagues and helped the NHS.
Although, our shielding fatigue is ending, yet we need to be reminded that nothing is over, as our challenges against an unseen enemy will continue for the future, and, innovative ways of working will be the new normal.
