A GP who has been suspended from the UK medical register for the past 18 months for accepting £189 000 (€211 000; $238 000) in gifts from an elderly former patient has now been reinstated after settling financial claims from the patient’s family.
Andrea McFarlane’s initial 12 month suspension was extended by six months in January after her former patient’s nephew told a medical practitioners’ tribunal review hearing that she had not done enough to resolve the matter of the outstanding money.
