Re: Routine vaccination during covid-19 pandemic response

Dear Editor

Concerns expressed in this editorial about the effects of a a fall in routine vaccinations for infants and children in the UK, due to the covid-19 pandemic, have also been reported in the USA. (1)

However, a recent analysis of the USA mortality rates for all age groups suggests that there has been a significant fall in infant mortality rates, in recent months. (2)

The authors of the analysis of the USA figures discuss possible reasons for the fall in infant mortality. (2)

Are the writers of your editorial aware of any similar analysis of UK age specific mortality rates in recent months, and would they consider that any changes to those UK rates, if comparable to reported changes to the USA rates, might be relevant to their concerns?
