Carlo Lorenzo Acerini was born in Greenock, Scotland, and was educated at Holt School, Haddington, and Glasgow Academy. He turned to medicine after completing a bachelors degree in pharmacology. His clinical training in paediatrics continued in Scotland until 1994, when he moved to pursue research in paediatric endocrinology and diabetes in Oxford. …
