George Harold Luffingham

George Harold Luffingham, known as Jo to friends and family, was born in Lewisham, and attended St Mary’s Hospital during the war years. After qualifying he worked for Professor Pickering, married Janet (née Carter), a physiotherapist, and then spent his national service in North Africa. On returning in 1949, he worked at Paddington General Hospital before deciding on a career in general practice. He became a partner in Gosport, Hampshire, in 1952, and was to spend the rest of his professional life in the same practice. He became one of the first GP trainers in the area, and retired in 1986. He was active in retirement, and enjoyed music, bird watching, theatre going, and wood carving. Janet predeceased him in 2018, but he remained independent, enjoying Christmas with family and friends, before succumbing to a short illness. He leaves three children, six grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
