A GP who ran a medical report writing “factory” and abused his position of trust as an expert witness has been struck off the UK medical register by the High Court.1
A medical practitioners tribunal decided to suspend Asef Zafar from the register for 12 months last May,2 but the General Medical Council (GMC) and the Professional Standards Authority appealed to the High Court. Allowing the appeal, the two judge court refused Zafar’s application to send the case back to the tribunal to decide again on sanction, concluding that “no reasonable panel . . . could do anything other than direct erasure.”
