Remo Maclaurin had an important role in the development of cardiac surgery at Harefield Hospital in the 1970s. Magdi Yacoub was appointed in 1969, and the specialty was developing rapidly. Remo had a calm wise temperament to cope with the heavy workload at all hours of the day and the night.
