Born in Prague, Eva Raik graduated from the Medical School of Sydney University in 1959. She completed a postgraduate medical course at Hammersmith Hospital, London, in 1962 and undertook formal postgraduate training in pathology at her old clinical school, Sydney Hospital, where she specialised in haematology.
