W B Stewart (“Bryce”) was proud to be born on a tea plantation in Assam in the days of the British Empire. His early upbringing was severely disrupted by the second world war. An only child, he was sent first to Scotland and then to America to be cared for by relatives and returned to Scotland only when the war ended.
