Dear Editor

I am beardless. I do have a moustache (much smaller than it was in my youth when I worked in cardiothoracic surgery).

Perhaps Southampton is going over-board? I hate it to drown in the Channel.

Has anybody checked whether bearded and moustached surgeons and anaesthetists in the Middle East and in India (where full Sikhs are found In considerable numbers), the beards and moustaches have been found to be encumbrances?
