Unnecessary medicalization of addiction therapy

Dear Editor,
A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) or 12-step programmes for substance use disorders concluded that both interventions were effective.
No administration of pharmaceuticals is necessary to implement effectively these therapeutic approaches on patients with various addictions.
All steps involve spiritual awareness, religion, or positive social interventions.
