Phillip Thomas (“Phil”) was an interventional cardiologist who was instrumental in the development of the cardiac centre in Swansea, and in improvements in cardiac services across Wales. Phil was born in Holt, Clwyd, and attended Ruabon Comprehensive School, before gaining a place at the Welsh National School of Medicine, Cardiff, in 1974. He qualified in 1979 and continued his general medical training with posts in Cardiff and Swansea. His cardiology training started with a post attached to Professors Andrew Henderson and Desmond Sheridan at the University Hospital of Wales in 1983.
