The Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) has cancelled a conference run by Oil & Gas UK—a representative body for the oil and gas industry—which was due to be held at the college’s headquarters, after complaints raised by GPs.
The conference was due to be held on 29 January 2020 at 30 Euston Square, London. GPs and other medical professionals took to social media to express their concerns and to encourage others to sign a petition calling on the college to “withdraw their support for this conference.”1
The petition, which received over 1000 signatures, said that the college must ensure that its building was not used by organisations that “threaten public health by promoting the use of fossil fuels.” In response, the college has confirmed to The BMJ that the event has …
