Jeannette Alexandra Smith

Jeannette Alexandra Ferguson was born on Guernsey, the daughter of Alexander and Emily Ferguson and the youngest of four girls. She stayed on the island during the German occupation, and the resilience and resourcefulness of her fellow islanders helped to shape her character. After studying for her A levels on the mainland she was accepted by the medical school at the University of Liverpool.
