Don’t scrap the sugar tax, doctors tell Johnson

Doctors have called on the UK prime minister, Boris Johnson, to retain the soft drink industry levy amid concerns that he may abandon so called “sin taxes.”
The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh also called for the levy to be extended to other products such as caffeinated drinks, milkshakes, and fruit smoothies.
In April 2018 the UK’s soft drink industry levy came into effect, with an 18p/L tax on drinks containing ≥5 g/mL of sugar and 24p/L on those with ≥8 g/mL. …
