Philip Francis Rose, known as Phil, was born on 19 April 1960 in Liverpool. As a middle child he remained very close to his two siblings, Aidan and Elizabeth.
Educated at St Mary’s College in Crosby, he went on to study medicine at the University of Dundee. Phil decided to become a GP and started training in Tayside. There, in 1987, he met Deryn Malcolm, a nurse, while they were both working in obstetrics at Ninewells Hospital. Love blossomed and, a year later, they were married in St Leonard’s Church, St Andrews. They were a devoted couple, whose relationship was based on mutual support and a deep love for each other.
His legacy lives on in their three successful children: Tom (born in 1989), a project manager with the Royal Bank of Scotland; Sarah (born in 1991), who has a PhD in clinical psychology; and Sophie (born in 1999), who is currently at Edinburgh University, studying ecological and environmental science. …
