Re: David Oliver: Hearing loss in hospital

Dear Editor,

From personal experience when my partially deaf mother was in hospital after heart surgery, I would like to wholeheartedly endorse David Oliver's recommendations. I would just add that it's important to remember that hearing impairment is often very asymmetrical. I found that I had to repeatedly point out to health care professionals that if they wanted to talk to my mother they would have to stand on her right hand side or she would hear nothing.
