Re: What a Johnson or Corbyn government might mean for the NHS
The sad part of this election is that whereas the politicians have claimed that in this election "Truth matters", yet none of them has so far demonstrated the ability to speak it.
For far too long this nation has been living beyond its means, and the NHS tops the list of institutions engaged in doing so. Democracies do not thrive on the whims of the elected few but on the collective wisdom of those who elect them. Whereas it is understandable that the political hopefuls will not tell the Truth and risk loosing votes, it behoves the professionals to step in and explain.
The NHS for its part can take pride in achieving a ten year extension to life expectancy, at the same time admit that it would be wrong to aim for immortality. The nation must accept that simple care rather than high tech solutions to the side effects of living a longer life is the way forward. It is for the electorate to realize that high tech solutions to the natural course of life are not sustainable, and this is one opportunity that we the doctors should not let go!
