There is a “huge opportunity” for more ear, nose, and throat (ENT) surgery to be carried out on a day case basis if the right facilities and expertise can be put in place, according to the latest report from the Getting it Right First Time programme.1
Increasing day case treatment would benefit patients, free up hospital beds, and save the NHS money. Increasing day case rates for tonsillectomy operations, for example, could release between £1.4m (€1.6m; $1.8m) and £3.7m per year, the report estimates.
