Rapid responses are electronic comments to the editor. They enable our users to debate issues raised in articles published on bmj.com. A rapid response is first posted online. If you need the URL (web address) of an individual response, simply click on the response headline and copy the URL from the browser window. A proportion of responses will, after editing, be published online and in the print journal as letters, which are indexed in PubMed. Rapid responses are not indexed in PubMed and they are not journal articles. The BMJ reserves the right to remove responses which are being wilfully misrepresented as published articles.
I found this article to be very insightful; it touches on a recent discussion I was having related to the Carter reports. As fantastic as the reports were and their recommendations, once regulators began rolling out change initiatives, e.g. 'better procurement', we saw that organisations that were already geared up (resourced) were able to get on and start implementing their changes. However, other organisations lacking the necessary resources, then found themselves falling behind, struggling to deliver and meet deadlines set by regulators, creating a two-tier system.
You can argue that with the approach set out in this article you would look to implement national and regional support groups linking with NHSI and other bodies to ensure best practice and support was shared to speed up the change adoption processes.
