Ian Michael Lowit, who died peacefully two months after his 100th birthday, had a remarkable life. Born Hans Lowit in Vienna in 1919, he enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine in the University of Vienna in the winter semester of 1937-38, during which he met Sigmund Freud. His mother was an acquaintance of psychotherapist Alfred Adler, and his early exposure to the atmosphere of psychotherapy in Viennese culture undoubtedly influenced Ian’s later career choices.
