It is with great sadness that we mark the passing of Nicholas David Carr (“Nick”), a former president of the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland (ACPGBI). Nick was born in Leeds, Yorkshire, England. He was educated at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School in Wakefield and did his undergraduate medical training at Bristol University. He undertook senior house officer posts at the Bristol Royal Infirmary before becoming registrar in surgery on the south Manchester circuit. He worked at Withington and Stepping Hill hospitals and as research registrar to Philip Schofield from 1981 to 1983.
