Many end of life patients die from sepsis often due to respiratory or urinary infection. It's a way people die. The important thing is that end of life patients are correctly identified and receive appropriate medication in accordance with previous consents and usual safeguards. Dying patients will often trigger sepsis pathways which may result in inappropriate hospital admissions unless staff are fully informed.
