Ranitidine: doctors should switch patients to alternative, says health department

Doctors must identify and review patients with prescriptions for ranitidine tablets for gastrointestinal conditions and switch them to an alternative drug if ongoing treatment is still needed, the Department of Health and Social Care for England has said.1
In an alert sent on 15 October the department warned that all oral formulations of ranitidine were “anticipated to be out of stock, with no date for resupply until further notice.”
