Predicted shortages of healthcare workers throughout Europe over the next few decades mean that the United Kingdom will have to find other ways to provide for a growing elderly population, peers have been told.
The message that the UK may need to become more self reliant in terms of finding doctors, nurses, and care workers was underlined by Chris Whitty, the new chief medical officer for England and chief scientific adviser at the Department of Health and Social Care.
