Capita: BMA poised to launch legal challenge to NHS England over archiving error

The BMA is seeking general practices to join a potential legal challenge against NHS England over a blunder that saw 150 000 patient records wrongly archived by the private company Capita.
In May NHS England wrote to practices to inform them that the records were mistakenly archived rather than transferred to surgeries, after an error by the Primary Care Support England programme, which is delivered by Capita.1
The records were later sent back to practices, which were told by NHS England to undertake an assessment of harm for each patient affected.
