The BMJ’s news article on how high coverage of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine could “eradicate” cervical cancer has created some confusion, which is evident from the letter written to the journal by Peter English.12 We’d like to clarify the difference between elimination and eradication and clear any doubts raised by the use of incorrect terminology.
